Heron Academy pupils were recently treated to an unforgettable experience when the London Air Ambulance team delivered a fascinating and interactive workshop at our school.
The session offered a unique insight into the critical work performed by the air ambulance crew and left our pupils inspired by their dedication and bravery.
The workshop began with a presentation about the vital role of the London Air Ambulance, which provides rapid emergency medical care to those in need across London. The pupils were captivated as they learned about the helicopter’s ability to reach patients quickly, even in hard-to-access areas, saving countless lives each year.
One of the highlights of the visit was the chance for pupils to ask questions. From queries about the types of emergencies they respond to, to the challenges of flying a helicopter in a bustling city like London, they answered with enthusiasm and provided detailed insights into their daily operations.
Adding a hands-on element to the session, the pupils were thrilled to try on the paramedics’ uniform and even test out the medical backpack carried by the team. The backpack, which weighs up to 15kg when fully loaded with life-saving equipment, gave pupils a real sense of the physical demands placed on the paramedics during their missions.
The workshop not only educated the pupils about the London Air Ambulance’s remarkable work but also highlighted the importance of teamwork, resilience, and quick decision-making in high-pressure situations.
A big thank you to the London Air Ambulance team for taking the time to visit Heron Academy and inspire our pupils.
We are incredibly grateful for this opportunity and look forward to welcoming the team back in the future
