Safeguarding
Keeping your children safe is our utmost priority
Heron Academy take pride in continually striving to maintain a safe, consistent and nurturing environment because we are of the opinion that our pupils should never encounter abuse of any kind and that it is our responsibility to work alongside parents/carers as well as outside agencies in order for them to thrive.
Our pupils, regardless of age, religion, cultural beliefs, gender, disability, race or sexual orientation have a right to protection and are able access help, advice and guidance.
Heron Academy recognises that the welfare of our pupils is paramount if they are to reach their full potential, which is at the heart of our practice and decision making. The basis of keeping our pupils safe is by always valuing, respecting and listening to their voice or those who advocate for them. At Heron Academy, our safeguarding team are a consistent resource which leads Heron Academy in achieving safeguarding best practice through our policies, procedures and staff code of conduct, this includes agency staff, visitors and volunteers.
Effective management of staff and volunteers is provided through safer recruitment, regular safeguarding training and updates so that all Heron Academy staff and volunteers are aware of and adhere to our policies, procedures and expectations, confidently and competently. On top of this, we have robust procedures to appropriately manage any allegations made against staff and have both complaints and whistleblowing measures in place.
Following data protection legislation and guidance, pupil records are used professionally and securely. Safeguarding procedures will be adhered to when sharing any concerns and relevant information with agencies to ensure the support and protection of our pupils and their families.
Heron Academy maintains an anti-bullying environment and will not tolerate sexual abuse, assault or harassment. We provide a safe physical environment for our learners, staff and volunteers by applying health and safety measures in accordance with the law and regulatory guidance and have further built a safeguarding culture where everyone is encouraged to treat each other with respect and feel safe when sharing concerns.
