At Heron Academy, we believe that learning extends beyond the classroom, and Saami’s incredible progress is a testament to that.
As a post-16 pupil in our setting, Saami has been taking part in regular community outings with his class, including visits to restaurants, shopping trips, and swimming sessions. These experiences have not only been enjoyable but have also played a key role in helping him develop important life skills.
Saami’s mum has noticed a remarkable transformation in his confidence and behavior. Appointments, which used to be stressful, are now much calmer experiences for him. Where he once insisted on traveling only by car, he now peacefully takes the bus—a huge step!
One of the biggest changes is how Saami engages with his family during outings. Saami's mum reports "He is now able to sit down and enjoy a meal at a restaurant, with his favorite being a Turkish restaurant. Previously, he would run ahead or sit on the floor in public places, but now he confidently requests to go out for a walk or shopping."
Saami’s journey highlights the power of real-world experiences in helping our pupils build independence, confidence, and social skills. We are so proud of his achievements and look forward to seeing him continue to thrive!
