On Thursday 23rd November we held our first ever Transition Information Event. This event was for all of our post-16 parents. Present were community services who work with young people once they leave school.

A number of services came along; Lambeth Advice & Support Service, Lambeth Mental Health Learning Disability Team, Nidos Volans Lambeth, Beyond Autism, Contact Organisation, Lambeth SEND Local officer, Christians against Poverty, Orchard Hill and CENMAC.

There were tables set up around the hall, with leaflets, posters and information packs. Parents made their way around talking to professionals and gathering information. It was a great opportunity for professionals to mingled among each other and share information about their organisation and they were representing.

A sensory table was set up with arts & crafts, a disco ball and much more. Heron Café was open and serving professionals, parents and staff. There were a variety of pastries, banana cake, pineapple cake, chocolate cake and brownies as well as hot and cold drinks! The surplus of food was then donated to the homeless in our community.

Events like these are so important for our parents as many times they are unable to access the information themselves. We plan to have another event like this in January with information on children with learning disabilities and topics such as behaviour, communication and sleep difficulties.
