Workshops 

We’re really pleased to share a series of online parent workshops being delivered as part of a partnership project between Words First and London South East Academies Trust (LSEAT). These sessions are designed to offer practical, supportive guidance for families of children with additional needs bringing together expert input from a multi-disciplinary team including Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Educational Psychology, Play Therapy, and service leadership.

Each workshop is 1 hour and takes place at 12–1pm, making it easier to join over lunch. You’re welcome to attend any session(s) that feel most relevant to your child and family there’s no expectation to attend them all.

What the workshops will cover:

  1. Working Together: How Parents, Schools, and Therapists Can Support Your Child (Service Lead)
    Tuesday 13th October 2026, 12 - 1pm
  2. Introduction to Augmentative and Alternative Communication in the Home (SaLT)
    Tuesday 17th November 2026, 12–1pm
  3. Building Independence: Everyday Skills and Preparing for the Future (OT & EP)
    Friday 29th January 2027, 12 - 1pm
  4. Supporting Children and Young People with Feeding Difficulties (OT)
    Friday 5th March 2027, 12–1pm
  5. Understanding Neurodiversity: What It Means for You and Your Child (EP & SaLT)
    Friday 7th May 2027, 12–1pm
  6. Helping Your Child Manage Emotions and Sensory Needs (EP & Counsellor)
    Tuesday 15th June 2027, 12 - 1pm

What you can expect

  • Practical strategies you can use at home straight away
  • A clearer understanding of your child’s needs, strengths, and differences
  • Support with communication, emotional regulation, sensory needs, and independence
  • A focus on parents, school, and therapy teams working together to get the best outcomes for children

We really hope you can join some or all of these sessions, they will be recorded and made available to those who are unable to make them. They are a great opportunity to learn, reflect, and feel more confident in how you support your child, while we also hope you will feel supported as parents.
